Several dozen of San Diego's Chinese American community members gathered Saturday to celebrate the milestone of a key piece of real estate in downtown San Diego.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association's (CCBA) building, the meeting place for seniors and Chinese cultural events.

The property, near Third Avenue and Island Street, was originally a Taoist temple, says an official pamphlet by the Asian Pacific Historic District of San Diego. In 1911, it was reinvented into a meeting place for a political group that helped in China's 1911 revolution, which led to formation of the Republic of China, the pamphlet adds.

CCBA took over the building in 1920, and since then, has served as a community meeting place for senior activities, cultural functions and Chinese school.
