Don't Be Left Adrift when Exhibition "Black Holes: Space Warps & Time Twists" Closes May 13!
BLACK HOLES
Last chance to be sucked in by gravity so powerful that light cannot escape and matter drawn in is lost forever! The exhibit "Black Holes" has delighted many who have explored what we know, don't know, and think we know about one of the world's greatest space mysteries-black holes. Don't miss your final chance to be disoriented as the search for evidence of real black holes distorts the once-familiar surrounding universe - don't be left behind when it implodes in an intergalactic singularity and departs our orbit! Daily, Exhibition must close May 13!

Watch the Annular Solar Eclipse with Eclipse Viewing Glasses from North Star Science Store!
Eclipse

Sunday afternoon, May 20, the sun's surface will be 77% covered as seen from San Diego in the first solar eclipse in 2012; visible from 5:27PM to 7:43PM, with maximum eclipse at 6:39PM. This annular solar eclipse, where the Moon blocks most of the Sun, will be the first to be seen from the United States in 18 years and the first to be visible from Earth in more than 2 years. Eclipse viewers and glasses will be available at the Fleet's North Star Science Store for $2 (incl. tax), along with safe viewing tips. The eclipse will also be seen from eastern Asia and the northern Pacific. Remember...you should NEVER look at the SUN without proper protection ... including eclipses of any type! Watch our website for more details.

Stinky. Crusty. Slimy - "GROSSOLOGY: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body" Returns May 26 by Popular Demand!
burp machine
Explore why your body produces mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly and stinky gunk at "GROSSOLOGY," our most popular exhibit ever in its 2007 visit. Based on the best-selling book, this exhibition uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative exhibits to tell you the good, the bad and the downright ugly about runny noses, body odor and much more. Take a "Tour du Nose," make the "Burp Machine" release a giant belch, explore the role of the kidney in "Urine: The Game" or climb a large-scale replica of human skin - and discover the mysterious ways your body's biology does what it needs to do to keep you healthy. More>>Returns May 26! Special Engagement through January 1, 2013 only!

Volunteering: It's in Your DNA!
Volunteers
And you don't have to be a Rocket Scientist to apply! From the Learning Labs to the gallery floor to behind the scenes administration, every volunteer is an invaluable addition to the Fleet family! For more info and to apply online, click here. Special summer volunteer opportunities, including Summer Camp Counselors, are available - let us know of your interest on your application. If your time is limited, many of our regular six month positions can be shortened to three for the summer. Teens can get a jump on community service hours for high school and gain valuable experience that looks great on college and job applications, so spread the word!
